Mtn Dew World of Warcraft Game Fuel TV Ads Launch

PepsiCo will start TV advertising to promote the Mountain Dew World of Warcraft Game Fuel promotion where fans all around the world will be able to redeem their tokens for prizes given away every 15 minutes.

PURCHASE, N.Y., June 8—This summer in the United States, PepsiCo’s Mtn Dew is offering two limited edition line extensions inspired by Blizzard Entertainment(R)‘s World of Warcraft(R), the most popular subscription-based multiplayer online role-playing game in the world. Mtn Dew Game Fuel is available in two varieties that represent the opposing factions of the game: citrus-cherry-flavored Horde Red and wild fruit-flavored Alliance Blue. The packaging for each product features images of the iconic characters that symbolize each faction.

To celebrate the launch of the two beverages, Mtn Dew, working in partnership with Blizzard Entertainment, is offering World of Warcraft players an in-game pet, known as a “battle-bot,” available exclusively through the promotional Web site http://www.warcraft.com/Dew. This site also offers an extended 14-day free downloadable trial of the game. Throughout the summer, visitors also have the chance to win great gaming related prizes every 15 minutes for 84 days with Mtn Dew Game Fuel’s “Choose Your Side” promotion, resulting in 96 giveaways per day—a grand total of over 8,000 prizes. Among the prizes are Alienware Notebook computers and Razer Gaming Peripherals, such as headphones, speakers and keyboards, as well as Mtn Dew Game Fuel/ World of Warcraft branded gear and apparel.

“We are thrilled to be collaborating with Blizzard Entertainment to harness the power of one of the most popular and recognizable game franchises,” said Frank Cooper, chief marketing officer of sparkling beverages, Pepsi-Cola North America Beverages. “We’re giving players a new way to experience World of Warcraft and a new way to experience Dew. Both of us, and more importantly, the consumers, will benefit from the partnership.”

“We’re pleased to be working closely with Mtn Dew to bring this opportunity both to our own community and to the broader gaming audience as a whole,” said Paul Sams, chief operating officer of Blizzard Entertainment. “In addition to putting thousands of great prizes up for grabs, this promotion offers World of Warcraft players a new way to show their Horde or Alliance pride out in the real world.”

Mtn Dew Game Fuel is the latest in a series of the brand’s gaming programs. Most recently, DEW(R) launched DEWmocracy, an online game experience that allowed consumers to create the next Mtn Dew flavor – Mtn Dew Voltage. In 2007, consumers experienced the first Mtn Dew Game Fuel, a limited-time-only product and the first beverage created specifically for gamers, which was inspired by Microsoft’s launch of Halo 3 for XBOX 360. The highly successful XBOX 360 “Every 10 Minutes” promotion in 2005 provided DEW consumers with the opportunity to win the console before it was available for sale. In addition, as an ongoing sponsor of Spike TV’s Video Game Awards, Mtn Dew has helped to highlight the work of emerging and independent video game developers.

Mtn Dew Game Fuel will be available in 20-ounce single serve bottles and 12-packs of 12-ounce cans from June through the summer. A full slate of advertising will support the product’s launch with TV and radio spots created by BBDO NY and digital from Tribal DDB.

Painted Diablo III Overthrown Diorama Update

A few weeks ago, I had the opportunity to talk with Sideshow Collectibles CEO and president Greg Anzalone and Production Manager Brant Bridges.  Sideshow will debut the fully painted Diablo III: Overthrown Diorama very soon.  We will share these photos with you when they are available.  Last week, I reached Sideshow, and they are committed to let us know in advance when the fully painted Overthrown is finished to alert our visitors.  Additionally, they expect to produce new StarCraft II and World of Warcraft Dioramas by 2010.

Although they weren’t able to go into detail, nor confirmed nor denied it—personally I have a feeling it will be unveiled at the San Diego Comic Con through JULY 23-26.  If my track-record hunch accuracy and detective work means anything to you, that’s probably it.  A couple of years ago, I digged the plans for a World of Warcraft comic book that would be unveiled at the San Diego Comic Con at least 10 days before even DC Comics launched the press release announcing its existence.

The development team is excited to announce that the Diablo 3 statue, Overthrown, has recently received full approval from Blizzard, and the finished piece will be debuted soon on SideshowCollectibles.com! We are in discussion with Blizzard about future Warcraft and Starcraft releases. Although you won

Ensidia Gets World First Algalon 25-Players Kill

Ensidia Guild has gotten the World First Kill on Algalon 25-players at last.  The week before they managed to get him to under 10% after five attempts.  Today they managed to get Algalon down to around 3% health where he finally surrendered.

Ensidia admits this event is highly gear dependent.  It is no easy feat in comparison with the 10-players version—for which Ensidia also got the World First about two weeks ago.  Those who won’t see the Val’anyr, Hammer of Ancient Kings for a while, at least can look forward to looting a very nice mace from Algalon: Constellus.—Ensidia Website

New Tauren Druid Cat Form Unveiled

Blizzard has unveiled the new awesome Tauren Druid Cat Form and plans to show off the Night Elf version sometime during the week.  Check all of them out.

In our next major content patch, druids will find a host of new textures for two major forms, cat and bear. There will be five different designs for each of these forms for the Horde and Alliance. Night elves can choose to change their cat and bear look at any time by visiting the barber shop and changing their character’s hair color, while tauren will be able to change which look they use by switching skin tones in the barber shop—a new feature for tauren in the next major content patch. Given that there are more hair colors and skin tones than unique form looks, some colors and tones will overlap with these new textures. The hair and skin colors chosen will, in most cases, correspond with the color seen in the look of each form. Some similar colors that may share a particular cat texture will not necessarily share the same bear texture.

We’d like to share with you this new art for each form and faction in four installments. So without further ado, our first preview is for the five new textures of the tauren druid bear form. We’ll also show the current form design so you can easily see the extra detail and textures of the new art. Work continues on new looks for the remaining druid forms and we hope to add them in future content patches.

We continue our look at the new druid art with our second installment, night elf bear form. Here

Patch 3.1.3 Released

Patch 3.1.3 was released and servers should be back around 12:01 pm Pacific Time (-8GMT).  This patch was announced a couple of weeks ago to not need a PTR server.  It has deployed several Class changes, and minor item changes. The most substantial change for Ulduar is the tweaking of Mimiron, which will no doubt help a lot of guilds get past this annoying boss in normal and heroic difficulty.

Hunters

  • Hunter’s Mark: The ranged attack power bonus from this ability has been increased from 300 to 500.

Warriors

  • Blood Frenzy: This talent now provides 5/10% haste instead of 3/6%.

  • Pulsing Spellshield: The stats listed in the tooltip for this item were incorrect and have been adjusted. This item provides 69 spell power, 34 haste rating, 42 critical strike rating, 45 intellect, and 45 stamina.
