Deep in the Caverns of Time, Chromie seeks the assistance of heroes to stop the Infinite Dragonflight from tampering with the events set in motion that led Prince Arthas to purge the city of Stratholme. You must disrupt the magical facade that hides the plagued grain crates, so that Arthas and his guards find out Stratholme has been plagued. Destroy 10 waves of Undead Scourge.
The Gun’Drak dungeon is located in the Zul’Drak region (Northrend). It is the capital of the Drakkari Trolls. They have sacrificed their gods in order to defeat their enemies such as the Lich King and the new invaders: You. The dungeon is very well designed architechture-wise as it was built from the ground up to function as a Lara Croft or Indiana Jones puzzle-like scenario.
When you kill the first three bosses, you have to click the altar. Immediately you can hear the noise of old mechanisms at work. When looking over the altar terrace, on the ceiling of the adjacent chamber you will see a serpent-like statue drop down to a hole that fits the bottom of the statue. I found this curious, and knew something interesting has been designed to unlock something. Indeed, each time you kill a boss and click the altar, a statue of their worshipped god drops on the center of the inner chamber, and you can see a bridge extending across to let you reach the final boss.
The first boss is named Slad’ran the High Priest of Sseratus. For those who have done quests in Zul’Drak this is one of the Prophets who worship the giant Serpent god at the Temple of Sseratus. This Slad’ran boss is very accessible. Basically, as soon as you zone-in and go down the elevator he is right there with no trash mobs to clear at the Den of Sseratus chamber. Slad’ran is a tank and spank boss, but he got a few poison debuffs that can make things challenging. He got an AOE poison that can’t be dispelled. And a second poison he casts on a single player on top of the AOE poison debuff. This second poison needs to be dispelled ASAP.
Walking toward the next boss has some trash. You will find a chamber full of bone piles and serpents (Unyielding Constrictor and Spitting Cobra). The serpents are easy to kill. Watch the patrol, the Drakkari Fire Weaver troll needs to be crowd controlled. Once you go across the bone piles chamber, things get a bit more complex. You fight Living Mojo (Water Elementals) and Gul’Drak Drakkari Golems at the Tomb of the Ancients chamber.
You will notice how fast paced the dungeon was designed. Just a few pulls of trash mobs, and you are already on the second boss. Gun’Drak is much smaller than Zul’Aman. You could run Gul’drak in 35-45 minutes if you got a good group. The second boss is named Drakkari Colossus. He is a much bigger Drakkari Golem. You will see five Living Mojo (Water Elementals) surrounding him. No worries. You don’t fight them.
When you engage the boss, the Living Mojo elementals merge with him. Melee players would be best attacking him from behind, and the Tank doing business facing away from the team. The Drakkari Colossus will puke a purple torrent. This is a cue that a Living Mojo Elemental will spawn where the puke lands. Everyone must focus DPS on the Elemental, then get back to the boss. Rinse and Repeat. Once the boss dies, click the altar. A beam of fire will be aimed to the central chamber’s ceiling burning a cable that holds a golem head statue. It will drop into a hole near the center of the uncomplete bridge platform and the platform will rotate. This is the bridge you would use later to reach the last boss. So remember where you are to get back here.
The way to the third boss has the most trash mob pulls at the Cave of Mam’toth. You will find groups of four Drakkari Trolls: Drakkari Lancer, Drakkari Fire Weaver, Drakkari Medicine Man and Drakkari God Hunter. There are single pulls of the bigger version of Trolls on steroids named Drakkari Earthshaker.
At the end of the cave you will find the third boss Moorabi the Prophet of Mam’toth. Make sure to clear the chamber killing any mobs before engaging the boss.
Moorabi will transform into a huge mammoth at 75% health. He will cast an AOE debuff named Numbing Roar (Spell casting speed reduced by 50%). It lasts 5 seconds.
Once he dies, click the altar. A bean of fire will burn a mammoth head statue hanging from the ceiling of the Pool of Twisted Reflections chamber across the Cave of Mam’toth’s terrace. It will fall to fill the hole on the bridge platform. It will rotate and now with all there statues in place the bridge is finally giving access to the last boss. You can either jump from the somewhere in the cave of Mam’toth or walk back to where you killed the second boss’ altar (Drakkari Colossus). You will find the stairs to the bridge there. If you decide to jump off the cave into the water, there are Frenzy piranhas. So don’t swim alone without the team backing you up.
Once all the three bosses are killed and all three altars clicked on, the bridge will rotate in proper place granting you access to the last boss: Gal’darah (High Prophet of Akali). You will find a Drakkari Rhino and a Drakkari Battle Rider mounting it. Kill the Rhino first, then its master. There are four single pulls of Rhinos.
The boss Gal’darah has a few abilities you should be very watchful about. The first one to be careful of is his whirlwind. He will move a bit around attempting to hit nearby melee players. Simply run away at least 20 yards, then get back to him once whirlwind is over.
This whirlwind debuffs melee players hit and causes big damage over time. The tank in specific will probably have a second debuff on top of the one acquired from the whirlwind which is almost a certain death. In the video the tank got these two debuffs and I couldn’t heal him in time. The damage taken from the debuffs was such. As you will see in the video, after the whirlwind the healer (me) got some kind of knockback that interrupted the healing on the tank—who died.
At 50% health, Gal’darah transforms into a Rhino. It is interesting to see players impaled on the horn for a few seconds, then tossed away like ragdolls. Thankfully, the druid reacted later on and resurrected the Death Knight tank in combat for a nice comeback without wiping. However, you can see again during whirlwind that the Death Knight got two debuffs again, and right after Whirlwind the boss once more knocked back the healer when attempting to heal the tank through. The healer will have to spam heals on the tank as soon as the whirlwind starts to compensate for the knockback. And the tank will have to be quicker moving away from the whirlwind. Gun’drak and its four bosses are a fun experience overall. Can’t wait to try out Heroic-mode.
