World of Warcraft: Arthas Collector’s Edition Almost Sold Out

Update: World of Warcraft: ARTHAS has made # 16 in the New York Times Bestsellers List.  The Rankings reflect sales, for the week ending April 25.  This will show up on the New York Times Bestsellers list next Sunday under the Best Sellers Fiction category. Congratulations to Christie Golden and Blizzard Entertainment !

AMAZING !!! Recently, Blizzard Entertainment and Simon & Schuster, Inc. premiered the launch of World of Warcraft: ARTHAS, Rise of the Lich King on April 21.  It is been only 8 days since it launched, and I just got word from the editor that the ARTHAS Collector’s edition is close to being sold out. If you were planning to get one, you’d better do it now! Considering there were only 10,000 copies of the Collector’s Edition, this is awesome news not only for Blizzard, the publisher and Christie, but for fans who will own the limited edition of the first Warcraft hardcover. It has a special collectible value.

Back on March, World of Warcraft: Night of the Dragon reached its fourth printing.  WoW: Arthas is very likely to follow the same trend of best sellers.  This book will impact the overall experience of fans who are preparing to face Arthas in the Icecrown Citadel. Allows you to understand the tragic life of the once noble paladin and prince of Lordaeron.  The end of the book will leave many fans in shock when you find out what transpired within the Lich King’s mind during his four years hibernation prior to the events of World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King.

In his dream, three entities battle for a sense of control: Arthas, Ner’zhul and the boy … who players know as Matthias Lehner (Arthas’s last remnants of humanity). Grab your Arthas Collector’s Edition while supplies last—and trust me, not many are left.

WoW Patch 3.1.1a – Recent In-Game Fixes – 4/28/09

Six Ulduar bosses are got hotfixed last night to decrease damage of certain abilties, the hotfixes will be effective as soon as a rolling restart of your server is done.  There was a hotfix for Priests’ Soul Warding and a good change to Spring Flowers (Noblegarden Achievement).

Blizzard Quote:
We’re currently in the process of making further difficulty adjustments via hotfix to the following encounters:

Ignis the Furnace Master
XT-002 Deconstructor
The Assembly of Iron

The difficulty of these encounters is being lowered in multiple ways. Some of the adjustments are live already, others will be live soon. Note that some of the spell tooltips for the encounter will not reflect the hotfixes being deployed until the next patch. As the hotfixes are deployed, the Service Status board will be updated.

Further adjustments are highly likely to some of the other encounters in Ulduar, but these were the highest priority encounters for us. We want to allow additional players to experience more of the cool Ulduar content.

Check out the complete list of hotfixes below:

  • Pure Saronite mining nodes have temporarily been disable in Ulduar and will return in the future.
  • The effectiveness of the Priest spell Divine Hymn has been reduced.
  • The Priest ability Soul Warding now only reduces the mana cost of Power Word: Shield by 15% instead of 30%. The tooltip for this spell will be updated at a later date.
  • Glyph of Mass dispel will now reduce the cost of the spell by only 35%.
  • The Emalon encounter has received the following changes: The total health of the Tempest Minions has been reduced and Emalon

Updated Argent Tournament Mounts

Good news for those players who are groovy about collecting mounts. The Argent Tournament mounts will get a graphic overhaul to make them more unique and attractive. They will match the colors of the faction you represent too.  The mounts will only cost 5 Champion Seals and …  require 500 gold to be purchased.  500 gold sounds harsh no doubt, but taking in mind that the Argent Tournament quests give you an option of a sack of gold, and there are plenty of daily quests, you can easily make 300 gold a day if not more. These new mounts will be available in an upcoming minor patch (not yet live).

New updates about the Equipment Manager are available too. This feature will be released in a future minor patch.

Blizzard Quote:
In an upcoming minor patch, faction mounts offered by vendors on the Argent Tournament grounds will have their visual appearances improved. You will find that the mounts being offered will better match the colors of the faction you chose to represent. Mounts already purchased at the Argent Tournament will automatically be replaced with the updated mounts when this patch goes live.

The ten mounts using the original tournament look will then be available for purchase from Argent Tournament vendors for 5 Champion

Play Machinima Law Conference Roundup

Myndflame attended the Play Machinima Law Conference at Stanford University through April 24-25th as a panelist and shared his experience there on his blog. The event had the participation of various Machinima artists, law firms, Microsoft, Electronic Arts and Fred von Lohmann
(Senior Staff Attorney, Electronic Frontier Foundation). To learn more about the panels discussed visit the official Stanford University website. Below you can read Myndflame’s blog covering what happened at this two-day event.

Blizzard Quote:
First of all, imagine a remarkable variety of Machinima panelists (myself included!) in a room full of seasoned video game attorneys from the likes of EA, Microsoft, Blizzard, and some brilliant specialists in commercial litigation, copyright, intellectual property, and fair use from powerful law firms and legal organizations. Now add in professors, law students, and other Machinima Experts with a pile of writers, bloggers, and news organizations chattering away on their keyboards.

Trust me, not a single one of you could have possibly made it through the first day of this conference without questioning that this was actually happening. An entire day of panels and discussion entirely devoted to the future of Machinima Law!

So I’d like to tell you about everything, but I don’t have much time before I’m riding back over to the law center so here’s a quick rundown.

Patch 3.1.1 New Hotfixes 4-23-09

Blizzard issued new hotfixes yesterday in Ulduar, specifically for XT-002 Deconstructor and Mimiron.  There were various class specific hotfixes that you would want to learn about (Priest, Rogue, Paladin, Shaman, Druid). The one that might affect raids is that Blessing of Wisdom and Mana Spring totem won’t stack.  You can only have one or the other at a time.

Blizzard Quote:
  • Fear Ward will now properly be consumed whether a player is sitting or standing.
  • The Rogue talent Savage Combat should now properly be removed after leaving an arena match.
  • Greater Blessing of Wisdom and Mana Spring Totem will no longer stack as intended.
  • The trash mobs before XT-002 Deconstructor have gone through additional changes that should make them a little easier to get through.
  • The Ocular in Icecrown should be killable again using the quest item Eyesoar Blaster.
  • The quests “Shatter the Shards” and “The Guardians of Corp’rethar

Exorcism can no longer be used on players

WoW-Europe CM Vaneras posted a lengthy explanation to justify the removal of Exorcism in PvP.  If you haven’t read it yet, or tested PvP yet, Paladins can no longer attack players with Exorcism.  It is now a PvE only spell.  At least for the time being.  At a later point, when the developers have figured out a way to overhaul the Paladin’s burst damage, Exorcism might be brought back into the PvP scenario.

    Blizzard Quote:
Vaneras: We made a change in the 3.1.1 patch to prevent Exorcism from being used on players. We didn

Speculation Galore: The Return of Gnomeregan

Before anyone goes “Medievaldragon is looking wayyyyyyy too much into it” or “ZOMG what a wild stretch, N00b”, I will go ahead and say that myself. In fact, I will tag this in my mind as a no-news item.  Crygil came out with a thread that to be honest was very random and no apparent purpose at first glimpse.  The poll thread in question is titled … How Do You Feel About Gnomes?. Remember that other thread about Gilneas where a few employees had a posting spree teasing Gilneas?  Yea, that other “stretch post”. [ /facepalm ]

This new one deserves some attention out of curiosity and amusement. They are probably bored with the thousands-a-day threads they have to moderate, and are having some fun.  Or maybe … just mayyyybe, are leaking stuff in a playful way? Hmm.  Don’t mind me.  I am not on psychiatric treatment unfortunately.

Nethaera and Bornakk jumped into Crygil’s thread to add their answers about How Do You Feel About Gnomes?.  So we have two pseudo-teases now:  Gilneas and Gnomeregan Part 2?  That makes me scratch my forehead to the point I could open a hole there.

With the new Phase Technology used at the Wrathgate and at the Battle For Undercity (to name a few examples) and taking in mind there is a dropdown tool to choose whether you want to enter a normal or heroic dungeon—what if there could be two versions of Gnomeregan?  The normal dungeon [lvl 28-35], and a new open dungeon like Hall of Champions where you could enter the restored Gnomeregan as a new city, with NPCs, quest-givers, High Tinker Mekkatorque sitting at its Gnomeregan Throne.

Maybe a new Battlegrounds within Gnomeregan … that would be a great and deserved story progression.  And a very nice touch to the evolution of the MMO.

We claimed Gnomeregan back by defeating Mekgineer Thermaplugg, but we have no way to see Gnomeregan restored as a open to everyone city. Phase Technology is a very good tool to make it happen. Without making Undercity a dungeon, they created a phase where a level 40 character could be turning in the Razorfen Down quest to Dreadlord Varimathras. And at that very moment in time/space, a level 80 can be smacking the heck out of Varimathras and fighting King Varian Wrynn alongside Thrall and Sylvanas in The Battle For Undercity.  Technically, there is no need to instance Gnomeregan.  It could all be arranged with the Phase Technology so that after you do a quest, you become flagged, and from that moment forth you can only see the restored Gnomeregan as an open city where any Allliance player could go to interact with other players and NPCs like you do in Stormwind or Ironforge.

I am certain there would be a lot of Gnome players who would love this to happen.  The New World of Warcraft is an evolving immersive world. Not a static one.  We have now King Varian Wrynn involved in the world … past the Missing Diplomat questline for example.  The battle at the Wrathgate is no more. Now we see Alexstrasza and Krasus sitting there.  The same phase technology could be used around the world of Azeroth and Outland in very nice ways … say like the Emerald Dream, or adding new content and quests to places we have conquered in the past.

Is Crygil’s thread a stretch?  Sure it could be. Still … it does bring up a good speculation and community discussion topic.  Should Blizzard bring back Gnomeregan with Phase Technology? New Quests? New Battlegrounds within Gnomeregan City?  Hell, It’s About Time !

    Blizzard Quote:
Crygil: How do you feel about Gnomes?

Bornakk: Destruction. Pure, unstoppable, maniacal, destruction.

Nethaera: I voted “hug”, but only because they make great cookies!

What the ….? They are spending too much time with Bashiok. [ROFL] (For the record, I met Bashiok and Nethaera at WWI 2008 and Blizzcon 2008 during the Fansites dinners, very nice and friendly folks … and fun.)
