Blizzard CEO Hints Multiple MMOs Using New World of Warcraft Classic Engine

During a Forbes interview Blizzard CEO J. Allen Brack hinted the World of Warcraft engine built for World of Warcraft Classic could be used to develop other MMOs, but specifically other type of World of Warcraft games.

This is quitely interesting, because Blizzard could actually create alternate worlds of World of Warcraft, or even set in other time periods. Think of it as a whole game based on the War of the Ancients time or shortly after the Sundering. What kind of world would that be storywise? Instead of a Caverns of Time dungeon, think of a MMO based on a particular time in Warcraft history.

Technically, the new technology built for the World of Warcraft Classic can also be used for a Overwatch MMO or a StarCraft MMO. It does have its challenges, but J. Allen Brack doesn’t rule it out. Read this exchange and make your own conclusions:

8.2 Nazjatar World Quests

These are the 8.2 Nazjatar World Quests for both the Horde and Alliance factions.

Work in progress.

8.2 Nazjatar Sandclaw Netseeker Battle Pet

Over the past few days since Nazjatar became available for testing in the 8.2 PTR, I have been exploring the zone to chart a Rare Elite Map.

In the many cycles of exploration around the zone, I noticed that Sandclaw Stoneshell has at least 6 different spawn locations. This caught my curiosity, and I kept killing him wherever I found him.

Today, he dropped a Battle Pet named Sandclaw Netseeker.

Romain Durand Recreates World of Warcraft in Unreal Engine 4 and PBR

I had the pleasure of been reached by french 3D artist Romain Durand (via Twitter Direct Message) who shared with me his current project while job searching. He sent me a few images of a recreation of The Barrens, and I was unsure at what I was looking at. Was it Photoshop? Was it a painting? Was it realistic? Was it cartoonish? Was it 3D at all? I coudn’t determine what I was looking at. The more I looked at it, the more details I could see in the background. A balance between lighting, shadows, and depth.

8.2 Nazjatar Rare Elites Map

Nazjatar Rare Elites Map has several Rare Elites throughout the zone that behave similar to what we experienced in Argus. Sometimes they show up in the zone map, and as you get closer to them the mini-map will make a ping sound and animation.

The numbers in the map correspond to the number in the list below the image. Clicking the name of the Rare Elite will open a YouTube video.

Note: TomTom coordinates available in the videos (launch the video by clicking the rare elite’s name).

Some of these Nazjatar rare elites drop pets, a few spawn only when a world quest to slay them is up, and some have extremely high respawn timers. A few of these rare elites spawn in multiple different locations, but don’t worry. I have marked the locations I encountered. For example, Sandclaw Stoneshell (which drops a pet) spawns in at least 7 locations throughout Zin-Azshari.

The Laboratory of Mardivas | 8.2 Nazjatar

A few days ago, I looted an Arcane Reagent item named Strange Volcanic Rock: “Bring to a Pyroclasmic Arcanocrystal to charge it, empowering the Elemental Essence Amalgamator with the power of fire.”

I had no idea what it was for until I found a grey quest (meaning it is underground) in the mini-map while navigating through Nazjatar’s Azsh’ari Terrace. Inside a cave you can find The Laboratory of Mardivas. The quest with the same namesake is given by a floating book: Mardiva’s Tome of the Elements.

8.2 Nazjatar Questline Videos

The Alliance and the Horde fell into a trap when Queen Azshara ordered the use of the Tidestone to part the waters above Nazjatar. Their ships crashed down upon the bottom of the sea. Now both factions and their allies have united to confront and put an end to Queen Azshara. Check out the quest videos below:

8.2 Nazjatar Exploration Video

Nazjatar is now available for testing in the World of Warcraft 8.2 PTR servers. The zone is immense in size taking me 1:45 to fully explore it, and there were definitely some areas I missed.

The zone is layered in low and high ground and felt a lot like an Argus 2.0. Elites are shown directly in the map and the mini-map. They also ping the mini-map. Definitely Argus 2.0.
