Editor’s Note: After clicking the shadow portal, the screen hue turns purple and your hero is shrouded in shadows similar to Illidan in Well of Eternity dungeon. The Ethereals can’t see you while you walk by. However, Void Effusion have detection aura. Don’t walk near their aura circle. Shadowguard Voidcaster has a detection buff above their head (with no visible aura circle) so stay away a prudent distance. This is how they both look like:
Shadowguard Ethereal: I heard the Viceroy finally took care of that meddling priest.
