IGN interviewed Tom Chilton to discuss World of Warcraft: Cataclysm patch 4.3.
Tom Chilton revealed a few more details about the Deathwing encounter. Fan rumor set the Deathwing dungeon to be in Outland at the known Deathwing Lair (Warcraft II: Beyond the Dark Portal) or in Blade’s Edge Mountains (World of Warcraft: Beyond the Dark Portal by Aaron Rosenberg/Christie Golden).
Curiously, Tom Chilton says the Deathwing encounter starts at the Wyrmrest Temple:
“”The fight takes place in multiple different environments, you’ll actually potentially get loot at different points in the encounter so it’s broken up into larger scale overall. Players will start at Wyrmrest Temple and then eventually it progresses to players fighting on [Deathwing’s] back flying towards the Maelstrom, trying to wrestle him to the ground, basically.”
Chilton talks about the Transmogrifier and Void Storage features and wraps up with debunking [?] of Mists of Pandaria being the next expansion. His term was: “wildly overhyped.” — Source: IGN
I think it makes sense for Wyrmrest Temple and the dragon aspects to be involved in the fight against ol’ Nelly (I love calling him that, it makes it sounds like he’s an old draft mare :P), especially after the events of Christie Golden’s novel Twilight of the Aspects.
Technically, he never said that it -wasn’t- the expansion…
I think this is just misdirection. He wouldn’t just say “Yeah, Mists of Pandaria is the next expansions”. They’ll be dodging and denying expansion rumors and questions until they actually announce it at BlizzCon.
I’m disappointed that Grim Batol apparently won’t be a part of the Deathwing encounter. I think it deserves to be.
Oh yeah, it’s definitely misdirection. I mean, they used to say they weren’t developing SC2 between 2003 and 2007, but we know now that they were lying through their teeth.
“Trying to wrestle him to the ground, basically.””
Maybe we’ll be the one to impale him on the Wyrmrest temple then >_<
I had the impression, he said in the interview we fight Deathwing at Wyrmrest Temple and end up all the way over the Maelstrom though — which means the Hour of Twilight is sorta canceled out — unless some crazy stuff happens (like Deathwing coming back to life, or someone powerful bringing his corpse all the way to Wyrmrest)
