The full requirements to be able to unlock an Allied Race are not yet ironed out or officially stated by Blizzard Entertainment, but the recent waves of datamined content in the past few weeks more or less give you a clear picture of what you should be working on if you haven’t completed those tasks.

ALLIANCE

Lightforged Draenei:

  • Achievement: You Are Now Prepared!
  • Exalted with Army of the Light

Void Elves:

  • Achievement: You Are Now Prepared!
  • Exalted with Argussian Reach

HORDE

The Horde has three Allied Races: Nightborne, Highmountain, and Zandalari. The Zandalari unlock likely requires some sort of achievement or reputation requirement which has not been made available through datamining yet. So let’s skip that one for now.

Highmountain Tauren:

  • Achievement: Ain’t No Mountain High Enough
  • Exalted with Highmountain Tribe

Nightborne:

  • Achievement: Good Suramaritan
  • Exalted with The Nightfallen

The second Allied Race missing in the datamining revelation spree posted by MMO-Champion and WoWHead is the Dark Iron Dwarves. However, it is possible you only require Exalted with Iron Forge, and maybe the Achievement: You Are Now Prepared!. I would assume mostly as proof that you have done your Argus storyline homework.

I would also assume that you might need the achievement for some Dwarven zones. Probably any or multiple of these: Loch Modan, Wetlands, Iron Forge, Burning Steppes, and/or Searing Gorge. Even if you think you already have these, I would double check the achievements tab just in case. For example, I have been playing since 2004. Technically, achievements didn’t exist back then. So even if I had completed all quests in each zone in 2004, I didn’t get a retroactive “completion” of those quests.

In addition, Cataclysm revampled all low-level zones. So it might be a good idea to take your level 110 character for a spin to turbo complete all quests in those Dwarven areas. From the search icon on the left of your mini-map, make sure to enable the Trivial Quests option.
