Following a meeting in Taipei, a few days ago, the international committee behind WiMax wireless internet standard announced final approval of the upcoming standard IEEE 802.16m will take place in March 2011. The new standard allows wireless devices to operate at a frequency of 20 Mhz.
What this means for World of Warcraft and Starcraft II players with laptops and a wireless modem or mobile internet connection is better wireless security, and privacy; and double the network traffic over signals.
Existing 802.16e compatible computers will be able to update to 802.16m via firmware.
Manufacturers will be able to pre-install the update by early 2012. The last update 802.16e was deployed in 2005.
