The covenants have united their forces alongside mortals to rally towards Zereth Mortis to rescue Anduin Wrynn and put an end to the Jailer’s schemes.
With the help of Tal-nara, Kah-Delen, and Kah-Sher, the new Arbiter's sigil is formed. Used together with the sigils collected from the other covenants, a gateway to Zereth Mortis is opened.
A One-Way Trip
You have been tasked to go through the gateway-- but Pelagos unexpectedly offers to go with you. As you prepare to leave, a dreadlord reveals themselves and orders a Mawsworn ambush.
You manage to make your way through the portal just before it is destroyed, leaving you and Pelagos to explore this strange new land with no way to return home. While exploring, you encounter Firim, a broker who is willing to help you in return for aid. He leads you to the village of Haven.
In Haven, you assist the Enlightened in defending the small village from the Mawsworn. After you have earned their trust, the Enlightened open an ancient gateway back to Oribos, allowing you to return and bring back Bolvar's expeditionary forces.
The Mawsworn have concentrated their efforts on the forge of Afterlives. Bolvar tasks you to investigate with Shandris Feathermoon.
You discover that the Jailer is dominating automa to open the way to the Sepulcher of the First Ones. Armed with this knowledge, you attempt to halt this progress, and uncover the dreadlord infiltrators among your forces-- including their leader, Mal'ganis.
Mal'ganis reveals that Anduin is about to open the way to the Sepulcher. You rush to stop him with the help of Jaina and Baine. However, you are unable to stop the Jailer from entering the Sepulcher and taking Anduin with him.
Cryptic Warnings
Pelagos has discovered that devourers have entered Zereth Mortis and threaten Haven. When the two of you go to assess the danger, you discover an oracle who delivers a cryptic warning before falling comatose.
You decide to take the oracle to Firim and ask for his assistance. An automa core that Firim obtained has an unusual reaction to the oracle. Firim tasks you with using the core, called Pocopoc, to unravel the secrets of the Cyphers of the First Ones.
Entering the Sepulcher
Uther has come to you with important news that will grant insight into the Jailer's methods: Sylvanas has awakened.
Bolvar wishes to concentrate efforts on finding a way into the Sepulcher of the First Ones, in order to pursue and defeat the Jailer once and for all.
When the way to the Sepulcher of the First Ones is at last opened, Uther convinces the others to accept Sylvanas's help in freeing Anduin from the Jailer's clutches.
The Primus concludes that his theory was correct. However, mortals are not automa -- more is required to forge some kind of resistance. The Primus suggests that the answer may lie in the memories of those who have been previous dominated. You help Bolvar, Darion, Anduin, and Sylvanas delve into their memories, and retrieve essences of Defiance before returning to the Primus.
The Primus combines the essences of Defiance, the cyphers, and the remains of the Helm of Domination, forging a new creation: the Crown of Wills. He presents the Crown to Bolvar, and you are tasked with entering the Sepulcher of the First ones once more -- this time to defeat the Jailer.
The Oracle's Plan
You receive word that something unexpected is happening with Firim. When you arrive, you discover that the oracle you rescued has awakened. The oracle --- Saezurah -- speaks through Pocopoc, and asks you to follow Pocopoc to the Resonant Peaks.
The Resonant Peaks have been overrun by devourers that are consuming whatever magic they can find. Saezurah tasks you with gathering magic from the devourers and traversing the peaks to reach a vault at the summit. The vault contains the dormant vessel of an Eternal One. Together with Pocopoc, you fend off a swarm of devourers until you return to Exile's Hollow.
Upon your return, the progenitor magic you gathered is passed from Pocopoc to Saezurah, who then becomes fully active. Saezurah thanks you, and explains that the vessel you've recovered isn't just a vessel. It will serve as the body for a newly created Arbiter for the Shadowlands. Saezurah will reach out to you once it is done preparing the vessel for the ritual.
The Purpose
Saezurah contacts you, having completed preparing the vessel for the ritual. You are tasked with gathering reinforcements from the covenant forces in order to make your way to the Crypts of the Eternal, where the ritual will take place.
Although heavily guarded by Mawsworn, you and your covenant reinforcements are able to battle your way through and enter the Crypts of the Eternal. Although all seems to be going according to plan, dreadlord interference causes the ritual to go awry. The vessel is left empty, and your efforts appear to be in vain.
Uther escorts Sylvanas Windrunner to Oribos where she meets judgment before the Arbiter Pelagos. Sylvanas is sentenced to meet Tyrande's choice for a punishment.
Tyrande deems that for a starter, Sylvanas must descend to The Maw to send every single soul to Oribos so that they can be judged mercifully by Arbiter Pelagos until only Sylvanas is left within The Maw.
