Overwatch – New Hero: Doctrine
Aaron Keller: Oh my God! That was insane! You know, they didn’t let me watch that until today, until right now. It’s pretty incredible. And there is so much more coming, so let’s get into it. The world of Overwatch is so special to me and to this team. It is a future full of hope, optimism, and bravery, and at its core, it is a game about heroes.
They are the beating heart of everything we create. We are releasing 10 new heroes this year. From someone as absolutely ridiculous as Jetpack Cat, to someone whose connection to Doomfist, could set something much bigger in motion. And you’ve just got to see it.

Aaron Keller: The 9th hero joining Overwatch this year is Doctrine. Doomfist’s newest ally is a support hero armed with a scepter that heals allies and damages enemies. He can rush through battle, shrouded in darkness, while his drones heal teammates and speed up their attacks. What really sets Doctrine apart is Infuse, which transforms his next ability. Imagine not just dashing, but taking flight. And who says vampires need to be creepy? In Overwatch, they are cool and they come with mechanical bats. Ben Bell: We are fired up for Doctrine, and he’s coming next month in Season 5. So let’s be honest. What you all really want to know is when can you play him. And if you’re here at BlizzCon, the answer is right now, and if you’re viewing this at home, Doctrine’s hero trial will start as soon as we finish talking.
Aaron Keller: Earlier this year, we kicked off the first year-long narrative in Overwatch history. That story has already taken some exciting turns, so we should probably get you caught up on what’s going on and why we just watched Doomfist break into a prison. Miranda, our narrative lead, is going to break it all down for you.
Miranda Moyer: At the top of this year, Vendetta challenged Doomfist for control of Talon. And after a tough fight, she defeated and presumably killed him. Presumably, allegedly. And then she says, hey, enough with all this hiding in the shadows nonsense. Talon is going to take over the world. After a little pit stop to blow up Watchpoint: Gibraltar, she kicked off her big global conquest. She raided Watchpoint: Grand Mesa, she allied with the Hashimoto clan in Japan, and she even got the junkers to attack Busan. She left all of these messes for Overwatch to handle, while she kept claiming victory after victory after victory.
However, it turns out, in the background of all of this, that Doomfist is alive. I was also shocked. I was very surprised. He’s alive, and if you ignore the part where his arm got cut off and he got thrown out a window, then he’s doing great. And after a little bit of introspection, after regrouping with his favorite girlies, he’s back, he is farming more aura than ever, as you saw. And if he wants to get back on top, he is going to need a hand from a figure of his past, Doctrine. And I think that just about gets us caught up.
Ben Bell: And if you’ve been waiting for the right time to come back to Overwatch, Season 5 was built for you. We have a new map: Grimsvatn (Iceland), a new hero: Doctrine, we have the return of Dokiwatch, we have unvaulted battle passes, and we have two of the most requested hero reworks ever. Or should we say re-reworks?
Aaron Keller: Roadhog will now actually be able to help out his team, plus his hook and instant-death combo should be a lot less frustrating to play against. And Sombra has received her own hotfix, turning her into a support. Everyone here will get to play these reworks as well as the new map all weekend.
Miranda Moyer: Season 5 will also see the conclusion of the Reign of Talon story. Then in Season 6, we will release our 10th hero of the year who is investigating certain parts of the world, certain sectors of the world, you could say. But we’re gonna keep quiet on any more clues about him just yet.
Ben Bell: This is my first BlizzCon, and it is amazing to be here with all of you. And I love what we do because we get to do something that’s really important for the world. People need a place to come together, to be with friends, to get connected to community. And being here with all of you in person is incredibly inspirational for me. Speaking of inspiration, we have an amazing lineup here at BlizzCon. We’re thrilled to have Yoasobi performing tomorrow during the Overwatch World Cup.
Miranda Moyer: We are also so hyped to have Le Sserafim back at BlizzCon to close out the weekend. And to celebrate their return to BlizzCon, we also have an all-new in-game collaboration, and it’s available starting right now. But that’s not all. Le Sserafin will also be joining devs later today to talk about the collaboration and their newest music video, Made My Night.
Ben Bell: And in addition to awesome game demos and all these talented musical acts, there’s something that I’m personally really excited about. Tomorrow, right here on this stage, we’re doing something that is completely new. It’s a live Overwatch tabletop RPG called QuestWatch and it was written by Matt Mercer (Cassidy) and the Overwatch narrative team. Cassidy will be your game master, guiding a group of heroes, including Symmetra, Sombra, Reinhardt, and Vendetta through a one-of-a-kind story that was built just for this weekend. Now, I love tabletop gaming. I’m an aspiring game master myself, and I’m definitely going to be in the audience with all of you for this one.
Aaron Keller: I think a lot about what makes Overwatch special, and at the heart of it, is our vision of a hopeful future. And toward that end, following QuestWatch, we’ll be auctioning off custom miniatures, artwork, collectibles, this jacket created by members of the team and signed by developers and voice actors — all supporting Make-A-Wish.
I have a personal connection with Make-A-Wish, so to be able to partner with them, to raise money, to help more families, the way they helped mine is such a special gift.
Ben Bell: This has been the biggest year in Overwatch’s history, and it all started at our 2026 Overwatch Spotlight. That’s when we made our ambitions clear, to be the best competitive experience in the world. Whoever you are, wherever you are in the world, however you play shooters, we have an Overwatch hero that was built for you and we want to be the game for you.
Aaron Keller: And since we have you here, I have to sneak in one quick plug for our next spotlight in February 2027 with a new story, a fresh set of heroes, and some amazing new systems. We are aiming for peak Overwatch.
Miranda Moyer: Overwatch is so incredibly special to us. I genuinely can’t even begin to say how much this game means to all of us, and we can’t thank all of you enough for all of the passion, dedication, and hope that you have shared with us for the past 10 years.
