World of Warcraft Cinematics: The Road to Legion panel transcript
Kelleher: Hello, BlizzCon 2015! I am so excited to be here. I hope you are too. Thank you so much for coming to the Cinematics Legion panel. We are going to get into the entire panel here. Hopefully, everyone here got a chance to see the cinematic during the opening ceremony. Yes? Awesome. If you haven’t I just want to call out and give the shoutouts to the theaters upstairs. If you haven’t gone up there, it is a 5.1 mix. It’s really great. So take a look if you have got a chance, alright? We are going to get into this Legion Cinematics today, but before we do, a couple of introductions onstage. My name is Mike Kelleher, I am a GC supervisor at Blizzard Cinematics; and I just wanted to introduce you to a few of our panelists here.
Legion World Content panel transcript discussed by Alex Afrasiabi (creative director), Eric Maloof (senior game designer), Julian Morris (lead game designer), Gary Platner (Lead Environment artist) and Ion Hazzikostas (lead game designer).
This is a transcript of the panel discussing Artifacts, Class Halls, Relics, and more.
Presenter: Welcome to the World of Warcraft: Legion game systems panel.
Hello, BlizzCon 2015! Welcome to the World of Warcraft game systems panel. We have an hour long information overload that we are going to do for you, and hopefully we have enough time to do it, so we are starting right away.
Today we are going to talk to you about Items. We are going to talk to you about Professions, Classes, the Demon Hunter; but first Mr. Craig Amai is going to walk you through Artifacts and Class Halls.
I had the pleasure of speaking with William King, the author of the new World of Warcraft: Illidan novel, at this year’s Blizzcon. He was very careful to not spoil anything, but as we spoke he assured me that the lack of Illidan story in Burning Crusade would be largely addressed in this novel.
We will find out why he was so absent during the expansion, as well as delve deeper into his relationship with the Legion, namely with Kil’jaeden the Deceiver himself. After our chat, I truly got the impression that he knew and loved the character. William King said that he was a fan of Illidan all the way back to Warcraft III, which is a sigh of relief to many of us fans.
We spoke about what happened in the RTS games, as well as World of Warcraft; and I got the impression that he really respects Warcraft lore. He shared that Illidan and Arthas are, in his opinion, the most interesting characters in Warcraft lore, and that he’s very excited to be a part of fleshing Illidan out more. Getting in Illidan’s head will be a primary goal in this novel, to see what makes him tick. To my surprise, I was handed the first three chapters of the upcoming novel!
The first is the prologue, which covers Illidan’s release by Tyrande in Warcraft III. Those of us who loved the RTS will feel right at home, while those who haven’t played the game will have a portion of Illidan’s background revealed to them.
The best part for Warcraft III lovers is that the novel format allows King to flesh out the scene in greater detail. We get to see what is going on in Illidan’s mind shortly before his release, as well as briefly afterward.
Greetings everyone, hailing from France, this is Lugia and like other friends from Blizzplanet (and beyond) I’m nearly recovering from the trip to Los Angeles for BlizzCon 2015 (I might do a Vblog about my whole experience of the convention we’ll see). But as you might know already from other websites, a part of World of Warcraft : Legion was playable during the two days, to be more precise only the first part of the Demon Hunters starting experience.

Destruction rains down upon Azeroth. Demons of the Burning Legion surge into our realm, heralding the return of the dark titan Sargeras, Ravager of Worlds. As doom comes for the Alliance and the Horde, Azeroth’s heroes must seek salvation among the ruins of the Broken Isles, doomed center of ancient night elf civilization and birthplace of myths dating back to the world’s creation. There, they’ll harness legendary and forbidden powers to hunt unspeakable nightmares and unstoppable fel armies—and save their world from falling under an endless burning shadow.
World of Warcraft®: Legion™ is the sinister sixth expansion to Blizzard Entertainment’s acclaimed massively multiplayer online role-playing game. In the face of hopeless odds, Azeroth’s champions must summon the strength to wield fabled Artifacts, powerful weapons of lore that hold the potential to bring down the Legion. They’ll also strike an infernal pact with the Demon Hunters of the Illidari, an ancient elven order of fel-tainted assassins . . . and accursed followers of the infamous Illidan the Betrayer.
Stalk Your Prey as a Demon Hunter: Turn the tainted power of the Legion against them as an all-new hero class—the vengeful Demon Hunter. As a damage dealer or tank, pursue and evade your targets with preternatural agility; draw upon your demonic fury to fuel devastating attacks; and strike fear into your foes by metamorphosing into hellish new forms.
Wield Legendary Artifacts: Build a battle-forged bond with your own Artifact—a legendary class-specific weapon that transforms and grows in power as you battle the Legion. Customize your Artifact with personalized traits, tempering—or twisting—it into a form that suits your character.
Explore the Ancient Roots of Azeroth: Seek your world’s salvation among the forbidden ruins of the Broken Isles—mythic seat of night elf civilization, gateway to the Emerald Nightmare, and hiding place of the titan relics used to shape Azeroth.
Unify Your Order: Find refuge from the felstorm at your Order Hall, a site of great power linked closely to your character’s class and cause. Unite fellow members of your order to carry out class-specific missions and defend against annihilation.
Boost to Level 100: Prepare to face the invading armies of the Legion with a level-100 character boost, and experience this night-shrouded new chapter of World of Warcraft alongside your friends.
Earn PvP Powers in the New Honor System: Dominate the enemy in Battlegrounds and Arenas to progress through the new Honor system. Unlock PvP-specific abilities that offer new tactical possibilities, and earn prestigious titles and rewards.
. . . And More: Take on a wide array of Dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds, Challenge Modes, and more on the way to the new level cap of 110—no matter what kind of adventures you seek, endless possibilities await.
Pre-purchase Perks: Get a head start on your preparations against the Legion! Receive early access to the Demon Hunter and immediately boost one character to level 100 when you pre-purchase. Visit www.wowlegion.com for details.
