The next morning, on the outskirts of Ahdorhal…

Acolyte: This crude contraption will allow you to transport the remains of our master.

Arthas: Can you not simply raise the remains when we find them?

Acolyte: Pardon, Lord, but a being of Kel’Thuzad’s power can only be reanimated at a nexus of powerful ley-energies, and there are no such places in this land.

Arthas: Very well, then. Let’s move out.

MAIN QUEST

Recover Remains

  • Kill the Paladin guarding the graveyard
  • Bring Arthas to Kel’Thuzad’s tomb
  • Arthas must survive

Note: There are three secrets in this map. Keep reading the article to find out more.

  • Sasquatch Elder cutscene
  • Granite Golem level 9 (hidden behind trees)
  • Pandaren concept art flashes onscreen

NEW UNIT ACQUIRED

Meat Wagon – Meat Wagons can be used to store corpses for later use. Meat Wagons are the siege weapons of the Undead. Use them to quickly destroy buildings.

Destroy the Scout Tower located east of the starting location.

Further east, kill these two Footmen near a campfire.

Gavinrad the Dire: Arthas! Stop this madness before it’s too late!

Arthas: Stand aside, brother. I’ve come to collect some old bones, and I don’t wish to be disturbed.

Destroy these two Watch Towers with the Meat Wagons.

Further south, you will encounter 4 Footmen.

Attacking the Scout Towers further south will aggro 4 Footmen and Gavinrad the Dire (a Paladin hero).

Gavinrad the Dire: I can’t believe that we ever called you brother! I knew it was a mistake to accept a spoiled prince into our order! You’ve made a mockery of the Silver Hand!

MAIN QUEST UPDATE

  • Kill the Paladin guarding the graveyard (Complete)

Gavinrad the Dire drops a Scroll of Healing: Heals 150 hit points to all friendly non-mechanical units around the Hero when used.

Note: Save time. None of the buildings or tents in this area drop any items.

Bring Arthas to the Circle of Power. As soon as he enters the area, a cutscene is played onscreen.

CUTSCENE

Arthas: Come along now, necromancer. The powers that you once served have need of you again.

Kel’Thuzad: Told you my death would mean little.

Arthas: What the… Am I hearing ghosts now?

Kel’Thuzad: It is I, Kel’Thuzad. I was right about you, Prince Arthas.

Tichondrius: It took you long enough. These remains are badly decomposed. They will never survive the trip to Quel’Thalas.

Arthas: Quel’Thalas?

Tichondrius: Yes. Only the energies of the high elves’ sunwell can bring Kel’Thuzad back to life.

Arthas: Then what must be done?

Tichondrius: You must steal a very special urn from the paladins’ keeping. Place the necromancer’s remains within it, and he will be well protected for the journey.

Arthas: As you wish.

MAIN QUEST

  • Kill the Paladins
  • Recover the Urn

MAIN QUEST

Establish a Base

  • Summon a Haunted Gold Mine
  • Build a Necropolis
  • Build a Crypt
  • Build a Graveyard
  • Build 3 Ziggurats

Necromancer: The undead must haunt a gold mine before the acolytes can begin harvesting gold.

Select an Acolyte. Press B to open the Summon Structure submenu. Then press N to summon a Nexus near the Gold Mine.

HINT – Select an Acolyte and tell him to build a Haunted Gold Mine.

Now Press B, then press G to summon a Haunted Gold Mine over the Gold Mine.

Send the Ghouls to harvest wood at the nearby trees.

HINT – Once a building begins summoning in, the Acolyte can move on to other tasks.

Necromancer: Blight is created when undead structures are summoned. Buildings can only be summoned on to blight with the exception of the Necropolis.

While the two structures are being summoned, send Arthas and a few Ghouls to attack this Rogue Wizard level 3 and two Apprentice Wizard level 1. The Rogue Wizard drops Voodoo Doll: Increases the Intelligence of the Hero by 1 when carried.

Don’t leave the area. See that thin line of trees behind the Rogue Wizard? There is a hidden secret here. Command your Ghouls to attack (A) — or the Meat Wagons using (G) — to attack these tiny trees.

Enough so that Arthas can walk through to the other side.

Follow the path all the way west, where you will find a large arch. Two Sasquatch will spawn there. A Cutscene plays onscreen. Watch the video for the cutscene.

Arthas: What the hell is that?

Sasquatch: What the hell is that!? (Translated to English)

Elder Sasquatch: I don’t know, but it can’t be good. We should destroy them before they tell others about our secret society of Sasquatch, which lives out here in these ancient woods. None may know the incredible secrets that our race has withheld from the rest of the world…

They summon 2-3 Treants. A Sasquatch drops Claw of Attack +6: Increases the Attack damage of the Hero by 6.

Now send Arthas and the troops to this location in the south. There is a Sasquatch protecting some crates. One of the crates drops Potion of Healing: Heals 250 hit points when used.

Necromancer: When standing on blight, wounded undead units regenerate faster.

HINT – Build a Crypt to create Ghouls.

Select an Acolyte. Press B. Then press C to build a Crypt.

Send Arthas, the Ghouls and Meat Wagons to kill this Rock Golem level 6.

Move your Meat Wagons to this location to destroy these trees. There is a hidden Rock Golem level 9 here. He drops Pendant of Energy: Increases the mana capacity of the Hero by 150 when worn.

Build 3 Ziggurats.

Necromancer: Summoning a Graveyard will supply the undead army with fresh corpses.

HINT – Build Graveyards near trees so that Ghouls can harvest lumber faster.

HINT – Build 3 Ziggurats to increase your food and allow you to build more units.

While exploring the south, you might find Tichondrius without any quest at this location.

Tichondrius: I must feed on souls! I grow tired of waiting.

Necromancer: Ghouls harvest lumber for the undead army.

HINT – Build Ghouls from the Crypt for harvesting lumber, and as your basic attack unit.

Build two additional Ziggurats.

MAIN QUEST COMPLETED

Establish a Base

Select the Nexus. Upgrade to Halls of the Dead (U): Enables the production of additional types of structures and units. Attacks land and air units.

Select the Graveyard. Upgrade to Unholy Strength (S): Increases the attack damage of Ghouls, Meat Wagons, Abominations, Skeleton Warriors, and Skeletal Mages.

Build a Ghoul.

Send Arthas, your Ghouls and Meat Wagons to attack the first Paladin forces. Kill Balador the Bright. He drops a Potion of Greater Healing: Heals 500 hit points when used.

Balador the Bright: Vile betrayer! You are not fit enough to even carry your father’s name! Why Uther ever vouched for you is beyond me. You’ve stripped him of his honor by casting yours to the winds! You deserve a gruesome death, boy!

Build 2 Ghouls.

Build a Slaughterhouse: Produces Abominations, Obsidian Statues, and Meat Wagons. Also contains the Disease Cloud, and Destroyer Form upgrades.

Build 2 Ziggurats.

Build a Ghoul.

Destroy the enemy Barracks or it will continue to train new Footmen.

Build a Meat Wagon at the Slaughterhouse.

SECRET

Right behind the Barracks you just destroyed, use the Meat Wagons to cast Attack Ground (G) on the trees.

Make a path straight toward the river (west).

Bring Arthas to the ramp leading to the river. This will trigger an image to be displayed and flash briefly onscreen. The image is a Pandaren concept art by art director Samwise Didier.

Watch the video:

There is a bottleneck entrance south of the enemy Barracks. Destroy the crates near below the bottleneck entrance. It drops Potion of Mana: Restores 150 mana.

A Knight patrols this area from north to south.

As soon as you go down that road, go west toward the second Paladin for the Main Quest.

Sage Truthbearer: Light have mercy on you! Your betrayal has broken Uther’s heart, boy. He would have given his life for yours in a second, and this is how you repay his loyalty?

Try to pull the Paladin and the Knight toward the area seen in the image above. If you go all in, you might get in the range of an out-of-view Guard Tower which has a pretty long range. Sage Truthbearer drops Gloves of Haste: Increases the attack speed of the Hero by 15% when worn.

Build 2 Ziggurats.

Destroy the enemy Barracks to prevent the training of more Footmen and Knights.

From that spot, head south through this bridge to trigger the encounter with Uther the Lightbringer. The screen goes black, and a cutscene plays onscreen.

CUTSCENE

Uther the Lightbringer: Your father ruled this land for seventy years, and you’ve ground it to dust in a matter of days.

Arthas: Very dramatic, Uther. Give me the urn, and I’ll make sure you die quickly.

Uther the Lightbringer: The urn holds your father’s ashes, Arthas! What, were you hoping to piss on them one last time before you left his kingdom to rot?

Arthas: (laughs) I didn’t know what it held. Nor does it matter. I’ll take what I came for one way or another.

Optional: Before engaging Uther, you can run quickly south of Uther to destroy the southmost crate (near the tents). The last crate drops a Scroll of Protection: Increases the armor of all friendly units in an area around your Hero by 2 for 30 sec.

Kill Uther the Lightbringer.

Note: Something hilarious… there is a rare chance that if you kill the Riderless Horses during the encounter, Uther might cast Resurrection on all 4 horses.

After defeating Uther the Lightbringer, a cutscene plays onscreen.

CUTSCENE

Uther the Lightbringer: I dearly hope that there’s a special place in hell waiting for you, Arthas.

Arthas: We may never know, Uther. I intend to live forever.

(Arthas impales Frostmourne across Uther’s chest).

MAIN QUEST UPDATE

Claim the Urn

  • Recover the Urn

DON’T LOOT the Urn of King Terenas yet. That auto-completes and ends the mission.

There are two additional items you can loot to the south. One is the Scroll of Protection mentioned earlier.

Send Arthas and the Meat Wagons to this location when possible after killing Uther. There are 4 Sheep inside a corral.

One of them drops Goblin Night Scope: Provides an increase to the Hero’s line of sight radius at night when carried. To be able to loot this item, use the Meat Wagons to destroy the trees that block pathing into the corral.

Now go back to loot the Urn of King Terenas from the ground — near the bridge.

Urn of King Terenas: Formerly the container of King Terenas’ ashes, this magically enchanted Urn was chosen by Tichondrius to preserve Kel’Thuzad’s remains.

A cutscene plays onscreen.

CUTSCENE

Tichondrius: Excellent work. Now, your journey to Quel’Thalas can begin.

Kel’Thuzad: Tell him nothing! Only you can hear me. The dreadlords cannot be trusted. They are the Lich King’s jailors! I will tell you all… when I walk this world again.
